Under the supervision of the Manager, Calgary Support Services, and in conjunction with the clinical lead and Medicine Hat nursing counterpart, the Registered Nurse shall be tasked with the coordination and provision of comprehensive education, testing, and treatment services about sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI). The RN shall collaborate extensively with agency personnel, community partners, and conventional health providers to discern high-risk populations and potential avenues for intervention and assistance. As a member of the Calgary Support Services team, the RN will strive to minimize barriers to care by engaging participants in wraparound support.

This position is 0.7 FTE (25 hours per week) and is located in Calgary, Alberta, at the SafeLink Alberta operational site. Our provincial catchment area will be serviced, which includes Medicine Hat, Calgary, and rural regions within the Calgary and South Health Zones. Travel and weekend and evening event-related duties are required.

Responsibilities of Registered Nurse Jobs

  • Foster collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Medical Director of SafeLink Alberta in order to deliver STBBI testing and treatment services to individuals belonging to critical populations.
  • Sustain an emphasis on syphilis detection and prevention throughout the southern region of Alberta.
  • Work in conjunction with the Education and Support Services teams, in addition to
  • across the organization’s nursing counterparts in order to coordinate assessment events.
  • Facilitate participant navigation of the system and reduce obstacles to care through the formation of alliances and coordination of a network of services.
  • I guarantee continuous assistance to participants by establishing contact plans that are mutually agreed upon and by keeping consistent telephone and in-person appointments.
  • Enable and promote the establishment of integrated referral pathways with additional SafeLink Alberta and community services that are pertinent to the identified requirements.
  • Deliver health education that is grounded in empirical evidence, encompassing subjects including sexual health, perinatal, reproductive, and blood-borne infections, as well as general physical and mental well-being. Concentrate on enhancing public consciousness and participation in syphilis and congenital syphilis testing.

Qualifications/Key Competencies:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and ongoing registration with an appropriate professional organization are prerequisites.
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in a client-focused or front-line support capacity is required. A combination of education and experience that is equivalent may be taken into account.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR or BLS is mandatory. Phlebotomy is a beneficial skill.
